The exact time...

...When it occurred is uncertain; all that is known is that everyone knew it when it happened. A rip in the fabric of space and time opened, and fused Earth and most of another dimension. Races and creatures of all types were suddenly placed in the same time frame, some fused into one creature, and forced to co-exist. An entire new planet worth of creatures and sentient beings was brought onto Earth unwillingly. Humans, dinosaurs, dragons, demons, undead, everything that had ever graced Earth and the other planet was there.

It came to the knowledge of several sorcerer guilds that this fusion of the two dimensions would prove fatal in time. Pouring all that mass into one dimension or removing all of it from another would collapse one universe and make the other explode. A team of powerful and skilled mages entered the rip, and sealed it from either side. Within hours, the alternate Earth's dimension collapsed upon itself. The mages upon the other planet could not have survived.

Within the decades after the fusion of the worlds into one massive super-Earth, the dominant species of both worlds fought countless battles during one massive world war. Humans of all nationality saw their common enemy and allied together in the most perfect union humanity had ever known. Even a race from alternate Earth decided to abandon their home and fight alongside the humans. This species referred to themselves as 'Abaddon’. Though, that wouldn't help them. The beings from the alternate Earth, although technologically inferior, were winning the war against humanity. Demons, aided by throngs of ever growing undead and hellish creatures, marched on laying waste to all across the span of the Earth.

That was the point in time when the humans knew what they had to do. They had to abandon their planet. They used a combination of magic and technology to raise massive sections of earth into the air, where their new kingdom would be. The mages used their magic to enchant the ground to defy gravity, while the shaman and other supernaturalists used their skills to seal the magic, and give control over the land and a sort of 'field of protection' around the flying cities to combat the harsh weather and climate of the upper atmosphere. The advanced technology of humanity allowed them to create a large floating city, that would in time be capital to the ‘techies’; Humans who had no love for magic. Like their union in the battle for the Earth, all types of humanity used their skills for the benefit of their progeny. One day, they would return to the Earth and take back the planet.

Though, after such mayhem and devastation, many people strived to forget the events. People wanted to live their lives without a constant fear of what lay bellow their floating homes. So many people forgot, chose not to tell their children, attempted to ignore the ever present danger. This would prove convenient up until one incident when a sleeper agent of the hellish destroyed the city of New Amsterdam and escaped unpunished. A special mage based policing unit, named the Regulators, was formed to attempt to quell any future problems.  People were baffled, confused, as many sought answers from the broken government that had been instilled during the war. They had no answers.

Not long later the government was dissolved and replaced by a form of monarchy, a singular man to look to in time of need, the Archmage. His word was most commonly final say in disputes and problems, though, as the populace grew and cities flourished; branches had to be created in order to supervise such expansion. Soon people grew dependant, and in doing so wanted complete control of their land. This would ultimately lead to a civil war. This was something that had not been conceived for near three hundred years. And the idea terrified civilians.

Near one hundred and fifty years had passed since the collision and not very many people could recall the stories of the hellish populated ground level, except those who needed to know. The Arcmage feared the result of possible wars and funded an expedition to the surface of the broken earth. This first expedition was successful, the party leader having nothing but good news to inform the Archmage. Though, a second exploration party was not so lucky, when a massive creature made way upon their flying machine. Killing several, and stranding all; the thought of resettling was now a slipping dream.

Not long after the unfortunate accidents in exploring, specialized salvager teams were handpicked by the Archmage and some of his close peers. These men and woman went to ground level in quick non-stop salvage operations in order to try and retrieve lost relicts and possibly helpful items to fight the creatures below. Shortly after, however, the salvagers demanded higher pay to compensate for the terrible danger they put themselves in for ‘old world items’. Soon they worked for the highest bidder, advertising their finds across the sky-ports. The Archmage was not pleased. But it was a necessary consequence.

Now, sometime after these events, my main story begins…

Well... Where to Begin...

Overworld is a story my good friend and I started collaborating about near six years ago, sometime near the summer of 2005, we began throwing ideas around. We've been building it up into an elaborate story ever since. It started when I called him up, rambling on for a while about a story idea including pirates and ninjas, and we talked about it forever. Quite literally forever.

So, for the last few years, its been a roller coaster of ideas, thinking, and researching. Many obstacles have made an obvious appearance.  But never-the-less I've worked many days and nights plot twisting and character creating in hopes that some day Overworld would become a renowned story; like those of J.R. Tolkien or Edger Allen Poe. In comic book form. Preferably.

Now, as I post me some blogs I'll be showing some pictures of past work and some conceptual sketching too.

So... yeah...

We'll See how this works out then. xD
